NJBWC Brings Smart Cycling and Bike Friendly Driver Training to Communities Across the State

Thanks to the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, the New Jersey Bike Walk Coalition is bringing “Smart Cycling” and “Bike Friendly Driver” training to communities across the state to help build a culture where bicyclists are expected and respected as a normal part of traffic, while promoting and advocating for a courteous, cooperative and safe roadway environment for all users.

The goal is to build a network of community minded, street savvy bike ambassador teams, which model and promote safe cycling behavior in their respective communities. From novice bike enthusiasts to experienced group riders, these bike ambassadors will be trained and supported through a combination of online classrooms, on-the-bike workshops, supplemental resources and capacity building planning sessions.

Bike Education Program Manager, Paul Mickiewicz will provide virtual classroom and on-the-bike training to communities throughout the state, to help build safe cycling culture and local advocacy efforts. A certified cycling instructor through the League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling, the American Bicycling Education Association, and Cycling Savvy with years of experience as a bike commuter and safe cycling educator, Paul is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring these resources to your community! If you would like to schedule any of these trainings for your community, please contact Paul Mickiewicz at paulmickfit@gmail.com

Bike Friendly Driver Virtual Live Training

Paul can provide the League of American Bicyclist “Bike Friendly Driver” virtual live training by appointment. This one hour training is designed to teach motorists how and why to treat bicyclists as drivers of vehicles. By developing a better understanding of bicyclist behavior, (good and bad), bicycle specific traffic law and how road users can take action to avoid crashes, both motorists and bicyclists will learn how to share the road and keep people safe. We will also discuss New Jersey’s new Safe Passing Law which is designed to protect the most vulnerable of road users, (people walking, using bicycles, wheel chairs, scooters, etc.).
